Bimbo's Season 6 Review

This seasons campaign saw Boston Utd make some progress and a minor improvement over last seasons 8th place finish with 51 points  this time we ended up in 7th place with 58 pts to our name!We won 18 of our 34 matches, drew 4 (twice against OUFC!!!) and lost 12 of our games. We created a club record by scoring over 100 goals in a season  finishing with 103 goals for and only 60 against, giving us a healthy goal difference of +43. Once again, yours truly, Bimbo was top scorer with 48 and his strike partner, Phoenix finished with 37 goals. A number of other players also chipped in and perhaps surprisingly the next highest scorer was our captain AJ with 4 against his name. (All four of these were scored in our last game against the unfortunate BallD!!!) Our German international midfielder, Matze scored 3, then a clutch of players managed 2 goals each, including our keeper, Gunny! (also scored in our final game!) Others with 2 were Gavin, Numbnutz and Undo; Mickey only managed 1 this season (he normally has more from midfield) and both Kithy and Ulpetr similarly finished with one apiece.
Needless to say, our highest wins were against BallD, at 10-0 and 9-0 respectively, but we had other high-scoring games against the Widows, winning 9-5 and a 7-2 win against Geronimo. We did the double against Allstars, proving BUFC were the stars on the pitch, beating them 5-0 both home and away! In contrast, our worst performance was a home game against London, that saw us beaten 1-5 and the seasons crunch match against the Toon was a painful 4-5 loss. In an unusual turn of events, we faced Pablo11 three times this season and achieved the trebled here, beating them 2-0, 5-0 and 4-1 to take 9 points off them  I'm sure Pab wont be pleased!
At the other end our defenders and goalkeeper kept an impressive 11 clean sheets (another BUFC record!) We gained more attention from the ref this season, collecting a total of 18 Yellows and 5 Red cards! Our worst offender was Mickey with 3Y and 1R, and Ulpetr who received 2 straight Reds!In a season of records, we saw another first as for the first time in our history we (briefly!) held the top spot after game 4 and our 2-0 win against London. Sadly we only managed to hang on to P1 for that fleeting moment, although following victory over Sad Leg in match 10 we were in 2nd place again for a short while. Our lowest position all season was 8th. Our best winning streak was 6 on the trot (games 15 to 20) and where we normally finish the season well, this time we suffered 5 straight defeats in matches 28 to 32 good job we won our last 2 games!
In terms of awards, Bimbo received 7 MoM, Phoenix was next with 4, Mickey picked up 3, Matze and Gunny 2 each, NN, Gav and Mickey one each. This season we saw HD go out on loan to BMB  our thanks and best wishes to him for all his efforts on behalf of BUFC!And that wraps up this season - onwards and upwards Boston!!! We are United..!!!

Exclusive training pics

Our intrepid cameraman was down at Boston’s training ground to first up he almost got flattened by Bimbo as he helped Gunny get back in to shape for the new season.

After picking himself up and cleaning himself up our photographer went off to find more snaps to take he then came across KIthy training up Undo for the new season.

After ducking a number of near misses with the pan our photographer decided to go swimming with the sharks with a bleeding animal carcass tied to his back.

Season 6 Games 33 and 34

Game 33: Pablo 1-4 BUFC
In a surprise turn up for the league, we receive last minute news of an update to the system and our coach driver gets lost on the way to our planned game with Geronimo and by mistake takes us to play Pablo11 instead. Weve played and beaten them twice already this season, but it looks like the game is on and we head out on to their pitch to face them for a third time.Things start well as Bimbo scores from a Numbnutz pass on 14 minutes. The home side are not happy and pick up a yellow card for some poor tackling, before Matze sets up Bimbo's second on 37 mins. Pablo11 manage to get one back, to Gunnys frustration and she clears the ball straight upfield to let Phoenix score just before halftime, to send us in 3-1 up!Both sides show signs of fatigue in the second half and the wind is finally taken out of the Pablo11 sails, when Bimbo gets his hat-trick and consequently receives the MoM award. BUFC do the treble this season over Pablo11 and a welcome win takes us up one place to 7th.

Game 34: BallDraggers 0-9 BUFC
Its the final game of the season and Boston are feeling in a party mood! Were away at this seasons whipping boys, the unfortunate BallD, who were drummed into the league following the sudden demise of  CrashBiskuit and clearly arent up to the pace! We smacked 10 goals past them when we last met and so have decided to try and have a bit of fun in this one!The team coach is decked out in balloons and streamers as we head down the motorway and most of the travelling fans are wearing fancy dress. To make things interesting weve swapped our normal positions and Bimbo has donned the keepers jersey. Gunny, AJ and Undo form a three pronged attack for Boston and immediately get off to a quick start, when Gunny scores on 10 minutes to open the flood gates! Ulpetr sets up Undo for the second and our captain, AJ scores the third. Gunny combines with Undo to get a fourth and finally AJ gets his second from Mickeys through ball to make it 5-nil at halftime.Gav opens the scoring in the second half with a solo run from midfield, quickly followed by AJ getting his third and fourth goals! The scoring is rounded out when Gunny heads home our ninth from an Undo cross on 79 minutes. he only downside is Iama picking up a yellow in the closing minutes. Mickey gets the MoM award for his control in midfield, although four-goal captain, AJ must have been in with a shout too.Its been a fun end to the season, that sees BUFC finish in 7th place in the league with 58 points, having scored over 100 goals!

Season 6 Games 29 to 32

Game 29: BUFC 0-1 Bravehearts
The high-flying Braves visit Boston today and it could be a tough match for us. Both sides have quality all over the park and the fans are treated to a footballing display, with both keepers called upon to make some fine saves. Things seem to turn in Bostons favour when the Bh midfielder, Mr Sam is sent off on 23 mins for a clumsy challenge, but halftime sees the sides go in all-square at 0-0.The second half sees more quality football and Matze shows his international experience, winning the ball time and again in the midfield melee. Just as its looking like stalemate, the Braves striker, Hubbsy scores on 77 minutes. This seems to deflate Boston and although we give it our best shot, we cant get one back and end up losing the 3 points today. Despite being on the losing team, Matze is given the MoM award for his fine game in midfield.

Game 30: LOTW 3-1 BUFC
Feeling a bit down from our narrow defeat by the Braves in the last match, we have a difficult trip away to the Wings today. We rarely have much success here and this game proves no different to normal, as the home side race to a 2-nil lead at halftime.Coming out after the interval, we find ourselves under the cosh further, as LoTW get their third. BUFC show some fight to prevent the league champions scoring again and in the dying minutes Phoenix latches on to a neat through ball from Gavin, to get us at least a consolation goal. Not really much consolation though as we leave with nothing, still on 52 points for the season so far.

Game 31: BUFC 4-5 Toon Terrors
Our favourite grudge match today, as the Toon come to town. We were narrowly beaten by them in the first half of the season, so are out for revenge! The Toon have obviously gassed up their striker Juggernaut though, as he rumbles through the Boston defence to open the scoring. In an end-to-end first half, Bimbo scores either side of the Juggernauts second goal, only to see old boy, JW put the visitors 3-2 up at halftime.More of the same in the second half as the Juggernaut gets his hat-trick and Bimbo gets two more to make it 4-4 with 15 minutes to go. Gunny pulls off a couple of fine saves to keep the sides level and just as the game starts to look like a draw, S Bradley for the Toon deals a cruel blow by scoring in the last minute, snatching all 3 points. A disappointing end to the game that sees BUFC slump to their fourth defeat in a row.

AJ goes in hard v JW
Game 32: BUFC 2 -6 Nottm Reds
Nottingham come to the home of the Bulls today and manage to show us a red rag in the first half! Unfortunately Boston still seem a bit hung-over from their disappointing defeat by the Toon, as the Reds strikers, Viriato and Rudieradford score two each in quick succession. Phoenix help Boston to save some face by scoring two himself, but this can't stop us going in 4-2 down at halftime.Boston are second best in the second half too, as Rudieradford wraps up his hat-trick and Madmurdock also gets on the score sheet, meaning that BUFC tumble to their fifth defeat and as a result drop a place down to 8th in the league.

Season 6 Games 25 to 28

Game 25: Pablo 0-5 BUFC
A single point from the previous four games find us in 7th place and were hoping we can pick up a win today to turn things around. Its a tough away match to Pablo11 and these games are often tight between us.Pablo are first out of the blocks and test the Boston defence as we make a nervy start to the game, but on 19 minutes Phoenix holds his nerve to open the scoring with a neat finish. Taking the lead seems to galvanise BUFC and we totally control the midfield for the remainder of the half. Numnutz provides assists and picks out Phoenix again and again  and he calmly finishes each one with aplomb. Before we know it the halftime whistle goes and we lead 4-nil..!!!Early in the second half Bimbo and Phoenix combine to score his fifth of the match and Pablo are sunk! Only then do we take our foot off the gas, but Pablo can do nothing to fight back and we earn ourselves a convincing 5-0 victory courtesy of Mr Blaze, who was certainly on fire today, destroying Pablo and picking up the deserved MoM award!

Game 26: Billville 1-3 BUFC
Were away at Billville today and our previous encounter was a surprisingly tight affair  but Boston are in positive mood, especially our striker Phoenix who put five past Pablo in the last match  and in just 7 minutes hes on the score sheet again, as he latches on to a neat through ball from Undo. Kim gets the equaliser for the home side and that how it stays as we go in for halftime at 1-1.BUFC start the second half looking sharper and once again Phoenix scores, this time heading in a floated cross from Bimbo. Bimbo himself wraps up the match near the end by latching on to a poor clearance from Bill Curry who has again been busy in the Ville goal. Another 3 points for Boston and another MoM performance from 2-goal Phoenix.

Game 27: Sad Leg 1-2 BUFC
Todays game sees us away at the Legacy ground for what is always a close fixture and although we start a bit slowly, our recent goal machine, Phoenix puts us one up after 24 minutes. Bimbo helps Boston go further ahead on 39 minutes and we go in cheerful at 2-0 up at halftime. The second half shows the toll this season is beginning to have on the team and both sides show signs of tiring. Some sloppy tackling in midfield means that Gav picks up a yellow and Sad Leg get a consolation goal late on to make the final score 2-1. Bimbo is awarded MoM and Boston leave the Legacy boys feeling really Sad, as we take all 3 points today and have done the double over them this season, beating them earlier 3-0 at home too!

Game 28: Logalers 2 -1 BUFC
Boston are away to the Logs today and hope we dont trip up! However we fall at the first hurdle when Killer Joe scores for the home side after just 6 minutes. Annoyed at being caught out so early, Gunny smacks one straight upfield and Bimbo gets the equalizer on 10 mins.Matze is booked on 23 minutes and Gunny is called into action again throughout the half and despite making several good saves, she is eventually beaten again and we reach halftime 2-1 down. The home side continue to pile on the pressure in the second half and once again our defence and keeper prevent them scoring any more  unfortunately though neither can our strikers and we end up losing the game 2-1 and find ourselves still in 6th place with 52 points.

Season 6 Games 21 to 24

Game 21: BUFC 1-5 London UFC
The London boys visit us today and were hoping to keep the winning streak going. Unfortunately its not to be as BUFC get hung out to dry  quite literally, by the London striker James Hung! He scores a hat-trick against the normally unbeatable Gunny. His strike partner Strider, whos lucky to still be on the pitch following a horrendous challenge on 4 minutes that only earns a yellow, gets the other two goals.Earlier Phoenix got the solitary Boston goal to make it 1-1 at the time, but we had few other real chances against a team we often seem to struggle against. Hopefully Boston can rise from the ashes of this game as we drop to 6th place.

Game 22: OUFC 0-0 BUFC
After a disappointing showing in our last match, dedicated fans of BUFC travel away with us to OUFC hoping for better things today. Once again though things dont start well when our Czech international midfield, Ulpetr gets himself sent off after only 10 minutes. We battle on with 10 men, but struggle to make many opportunities. At the other end the defence are busy against the OUFC attack and Gunny makes three good saves to keep us in the game. The game ends a disappointing 0-0 draw and we slip another place down to 7th in the league. Things are tight though and just 2 points separates four teams between 4th and 7th place. Next up its Tank for us!

Game 23: BUFC 2-4 Tank FC
Once again Boston host the mighty Tank and our defence are dug in and Gunny has been laying tank-traps in her penalty area. Even so we cant stop the Tank strikers charging through and opening the scoring inside 5 minutes. We fight back though and both Bimbo and Phoenix also manage to get their names on the score sheet before halftime and we are glad to go in drawing 2-2.Gunny has decided that the only way to stop their forwards is to hack them down and promptly receives a yellow card for her efforts  but once again she proves just why she is on of he leagues top keepers by saving the resultant penalty. Sadly however, she cant stop their next onslaught and finally it is man of the match and the leagues no. 1 midfielder, Chumbawamba who puts the final nail in Bostons coffin, as we go down to a 4-2 home defeat.

Game 24: Fog Squad 3-0 BUFC
A tired looking Boston travel to the Squad today and the red mist seems to descend at kick off, as we get caught napping and they rapidly take a two goal lead. We seem to have run out of ideas and make few chances to get back in the game. The second half is unfortunately more of the same and it is only thanks to Gunny in goal that the score remains respectable. In the end they pick up a third and we trudge off the pitch well beaten. All we need now is fog on the motorway on the way home in the team coach back to Boston! Still, cheer up its Pab next..!!!

Season 6 Games 17 to 20

Game 17: BUFC 10-0 Ball Draggers
Comedy at the home of the Boston Bulls today as a ramshackle team by the name of BallD come to town  they are a bot team that replaced the now defunct CrashBiskuit and are no match for us.We run riot and put on a display match for the home fans, going 5-nil up by halftime. The second half follows a similar pattern, but the Fair ref in charge today tries to slow us down by sending Ulpetr off early into the half. Still ten-man BUFC charge on and Kithy in midfield gets one to open her account. Our goal difference is boosted by the final scoreline of 10-0 as the farce draws to a close. Numbnutz gets MoM for controlling midfield and his goal in the game. Another clean sheet for the defence and Gunny didnt even touch the ball! The recent warm weather meant she took a very relaxed approach as the picture reveals!
Gunny in action v Ball Draggers
Game 18: Allstars 0-5 BUFC
Boston are in 5th spot as we enter the beginning of the second half of the season and we play the return match at Allstars today. We beat them 5-nil on the opening day when they came visiting, but it may be a different story away?BUFC had some target practice against BallD in the last match and this game starts in a similar fashion, with Boston racing into an early 4-0 lead by half-time. The midfield are finding their scoring boots too as Matze and Mickey both score one each with great through runs, that must make the Allstars defenders wonder what they can do to stop us?In the second half it the Stricter ref who sees to it and stops the BUFC rampage! In a mad ten minutes he books two and sends off our captain, AJ as the game gets more heated! Bimbo scores Bostons 5th but also manages to go in the refs book late on. Still we dont mind as weve come away with the 3 points and surprisingly the exact same score line as our last game against them. Gav is awarded MoM for his tackling in midfield and the assists he provided with his passing.

AJ ordered off the pitch

Game 19: Wonder Boys 0-4 BUFC
The Wonder Boys held us to a 1-1 draw at home earlier this season so BUFC are out for revenge today. Weve been scoring for fun recently and as in the previous games, we are quickly off the mark again with two from Bimbo and another strike from our German international, Matze to go into the interval with a comfortable 3-nil lead. The Allstars manager must have blasted his side at halftime and they do manage to hold us at bay in the second half. Late on MoM Bimbo breaks their defence again to score Bostons 4th and seal the victory. Thats 19 goals scored and none conceded in the last three games as BUFC march onwards!

Game 20: BUFC 3-1 WidowMakers
The Widows come to visit us today and following a high scoring, 9-5 beating in their last match against us, will be worried about BUFC's current five match winning streak. Unlike the free-flowing game last time, this match is officiated by Blind Benny and as a result the tackles go flying in from both sides.Phoenix and Mickey both manage to dodge the two-footed opposition lunges, to set up Bimbo to score two before halftime. The second half sees more of the same and the St. Johns Ambulance men will be busy patching us up at full time, but before that Bimbo gets his hat-trick to secure the MoM award. BUFC's day is only slightly tarnished when the Widowmaker himself nicks a last minute consolation goal and stops Gunny getting her 5th clean sheet in a row.

Season 6 Games 13 to 16

Game 13: LoTW 5-1 BUFC
Match 13 of the season turned out to be unlucky for Boston as we travel away to the Wings  not a ground that we have had much luck at in the past  would todays outing be different?Well we started in promising fashion, with BUFC trading punches (not literally!) with the Wings boys  Phoenix bagged a brace inside 20 minutes. But the strength of the home side meant that they soon pulled things back level, before going into a 3-2 lead. Fortunately Bimbo snatched a late equaliser in the last of the added minutes before the half time whistle and Boston felt fairly content drawing 3-3 at the interval.Hoping to push on in the second half however saw us begin to run out of steam. LoTWs assumed the lead again early in the second half and although we had our chances, tired legs meant our usually confident strikers scuffed their shots. A good effort by the team but we ran out eventual 5-3 losers. At least we gave them something to think about and hopefully the day is approaching when we can take some points out of the league leaders.

Game 14: Toon 3-2 BUFC
Following a recent run of home games, it was inevitable that wed face a string of away matches  and sure enough were away at the Toon today. Its always a tight affair between the two sides with little love lost, so the first half is a close-run thing with some hard challenges resulting in the refs yellow card seeing some use. Then on 37 minutes the Toons Mr T lives up to his hard man image and dives two-footed into Matze in the centre circle, receiving a straight red for his troubles! The resulting free kick eventually finds its way to Bimbo to head in from Phoenixs cross in the 44th minute.Ten-man Toon equalise early in the second half. Then the games most controversial decision comes on the hour, when the Clamper in charge books Aliki on the edge of the box, for a seemingly innocuous interception. Seems he thought he saw her handle the ball, but she assures us all later that she never touched it! The resultant free kick is converted by BUFC old boy JW. The home side score again and Bimbo can only get a late consolation for Boston, as we end up losing the game 3-2 and drop down to 8th place.

Game 15: Nottm Reds 1-5 BUFC
A solitary point from the past four games sees BUFC in 8th position before todays away game to Notts Reds. Determined to make up for this poor form Boston are charged up for the match and start well, racing into a speedy 3-0 lead inside the first 30 minutes. BUFC midfielder, Gav gets his opening goal of the season in-between one from Bimbo and Phoenix. In the 4th added minute Phoenix grabs his second and Boston go into the dressing room four goals to he good. The game is almost over when Bimbo scores the 5th on 55 minutes and theres little the Reds can do. Their star striker, Rudieradford is currently ranked number 1  but can only grab a late consolation in the dying minutes. Phoenix picks up a deserved MoM with two goals and two assists and Boston leave with three points!

Game 16: BUFC 7-2 Geronimo
New boys Germo visit Boston for the first time in todays home game and despite being a newly promoted side, make a decent fist of the first half scoring two away goals to only trail 3-2 at halftime.Hoping for better in the second half, their hopes were dashed when Boston stepped on the gas and their two strikers made them pay. Bimbo ended the game with five to his name and Phoenix picked up two for himself. Gav played well in midfield too, providing three assists as the front men headed Boston home to a convincing victory!
